Hull and Deck

Her elegant bow flows smoothly into a long FIN keel and sturdy skeg-hung rudder for directional stability and balance, providing exceptional handling qualities under both sail and power.  For protection against accidental grounding or when careened, the bottom of the skeg and rudder are not quite as deep as the bottom of the keel.  The skeg also allows for a propeller aperture which protects the propeller from being fouled by kelp lines and debris.  The 34's keel is a solid lead ballast secured by stainless steel keel bolts fashioned into J-hooks.  Each keel is custom fitted to the hull.   The hull section between the keel and skeg is drawn deep to  enhance straight line tracking.  The distance between keel and skeg contributes significantly to her outstanding maneuverability.  The rudder is one of the most critical yet vulnerable parts of a cruising yacht.  the Pacific Seacraft 34 rudder has a 1/4" thick "backbone" welded to a 2 3/8" OD stainless steel shaft.  Yet, while the rudder is stressed and constructed to be a self-supporting, it is further supported by the skeg which is reinforced with a molded-in structural steel channel.  Skeg and rudder are connected at the lower end by a massive manganese bronze gudgeon.

  • (2017) life lines
  • long cruising fin keel
  • skeg hung rudder

The deck of the 34' is characterized by its strong, balsa-cored construction, with plywood inserts in areas of high load.  It features a double flange hull-to-deck connection that's through-bolted and covered with teak caprail.  The deck also incorporates a molded bulwark for safety and a 18" wide weather deck that's easy to navigate with shrouds being attached to outboard chainplates.

  • Double high SS bow and stern pulpit
  • 30"  high lifeline w/ boarding gates port & stb  (2017)
